A Love For Words

I love words. It runs in the family. My dad and mom when they were first married saved their grocery pennies and dimes to purchase a Websters Unabridged Leather Dictionary, one section at a time. Growing up if dad or mom read something and didn't know a word, one would be asked to fetch the dictionary up from its spot near my dad's desk. In my middle school years my dad taught me to look up a new word every day and learn its meaning. When I taught, I challenged my students to do the same. Later, I taught them to  use a thesaurus and find better choice words to make their writing clearer. I am sixty-five and still enjoy finding new words. I hope you do as well. The dictionary is one of those rare books that one has for a lifetime to discover.
